2,645 Full Scholarships Launched by University of Cebu — A Game-Changer for Filipino Youth

For thousands of Filipino students whose dreams of college were stalled by financial difficulties, hope has arrived. The University of Cebu (UC), in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), has unveiled one of the largest scholarship programs in the region — offering 2,645 fully funded college scholarships for deserving high school graduates.

This unprecedented initiative, launched on December 4, 2025, provides 3-year diploma programs in Hospitality Management and Tourism Management — industries experiencing high demand both locally and internationally.

“There are so many who cannot afford to go to college. Let’s help them. This is money well-spent,” said Atty. Augusto W. Go, UC Chairman, during a press conference. “Education is life’s greatest equalizer, and no student should be left behind simply because of poverty.”

What the UC Scholarship Covers

Thanks to funding under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act (UAQTEA), each scholar will receive a comprehensive support package valued at approximately ₱100,000 per year, including:

• Tuition Fees — fully covered
• Textbooks and Instructional Materials — free
• National Competency Assessments (NC II to NC IV) — fully funded
• School and Workshop Uniforms
• Accident Insurance
• ₱9,000 Cash Allowance per Semester

Over three years, each student gains around ₱270,000 in benefits, ensuring no scholar spends a peso out of pocket.

• Enrollment Period: Now until December 29, 2025
• Classes Start: December 15, 2025
• Available Slots: 2,645
• Currently Enrolled: 296 (as of December 5)

“This program is time-bound. If the slots are not filled, the funds will be returned to the National Government. Don’t miss this opportunity,” emphasized Go.

Who Can Apply

The scholarship is open to:

• Cebu residents and applicants from other regions
• ALS passers and pre-K–12 graduates
• Students previously enrolled in college

Required Documents:

• Form 137 or 138
• PSA Birth Certificate
• Certificate of Good Moral Character
• Honorable Dismissal (if previously enrolled in college)

To reduce commuting challenges, UC will offer classes across multiple campuses:

• UC Maritime Education and Training Center (METC)
• UC Jones, Osmeña Blvd.
• UC Banilad SHS Building
• UC Lapu-Lapu Mandaue (UCLM)

“We will open all our campuses. We will take care of them,” Go added.

Beyond Scholarships — Building a Brighter Future

UC and TESDA are also exploring Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses and international training opportunities in Taiwan, ensuring students become globally competitive. Graduates of the 3-year diploma programs may even pursue a bachelor’s degree afterward.

“Imagine earning a diploma after three years, all for free. This is the best Christmas gift we can give to our youth,” said Go.
