Keep Going Tabogon 2026: First-Ever Run for a Cause Set for October 18
Tabogon to Host Its First-Ever Keep Going Run for a Cause
Tabogon, Cebu, is preparing to welcome runners, families, sports enthusiasts, and advocacy groups for its first-ever “KEEP GOING TABOGON: Run for a Cause 2026” on October 18, 2026.
The community running event will be held at Paseo Tabogon and will feature three race categories: 1K, 3K, and 5K. More than a sporting activity, the event aims to use running as a platform to promote drug-free communities, youth empowerment, mental health awareness, anti-bullying initiatives, and community outreach.
The municipal government of Tabogon is organizing the event in partnership with Bornwinner and Coco Running. Organizers are targeting more than 2,500 participants from Tabogon’s 25 barangays, neighboring communities, running clubs, nearby local government units, and partner organizations.
For many participants, the event will be an opportunity to stay active while supporting a cause that matters personally to them. As organizers describe it, runners will not only run for fitness or competition; they will also run for their chosen advocacy, community, family, or loved one.

Running for Mental Health, Recovery, and Drug-Free Communities
Run Ambassador Jid Durano said the event was conceived amid growing concerns about mental health, drug-related issues, and incidents involving shootings in Philippine schools.
Durano, who described himself as a recovering addict, said the advocacy behind the event is connected to his own life experience. He explained that the organizers wanted to create an event that would benefit selected beneficiaries while also reminding people that communities and runners are not alone in facing difficult issues.
“With the recent nahitabo, of course sa Philippines karon sa schools [tungod] sa shootings, we believe that mental health is really a big issue now, much more so with drugs. And, sa akoang life as a recovering addict now, we created this such event.” — Jid Durano
The run is therefore designed to go beyond the finish line. It seeks to encourage conversations about mental health, strengthen support for people in recovery, and promote healthier and more positive activities for young people and the wider community.
Durano said the event will allow each runner to dedicate the race to a specific advocacy, person, or reason. This purpose will be reflected through the event’s advocacy bib, where participants can write why, what, or whom they are dedicating their run to.
“Not only will they run for themselves, but they will also run for their advocacy.” — Jid Durano
Advocacy walls and banners will also be installed at the venue. These spaces will allow runners and supporters to express their messages, share the causes they support, and make the event more personal and meaningful.
Midnasty to Perform During the Tabogon Run
The event will also feature a performance by fellow event ambassador Midnasty, who will appear in support of the Run for a Cause advocacy.
Organizers hope that the combination of running, music, and community participation will create an energetic but purposeful event. Durano has also invited runners from Cebu City and other areas to take part in the Tabogon leg, emphasizing that the advocacy is intended to reach communities beyond individual local government units in northern Cebu.
Proceeds to Support Tabogon Beneficiaries and Barangays
The Keep Going Tabogon event will support several community-centered causes, including anti-bullying programs, youth development, and community outreach. Proceeds will go to selected beneficiaries and barangays in Tabogon.
The participation of all 25 barangays is expected to be an important part of the event. Association of Barangay Captains President Salome Bungabong said the barangays will be encouraged to join, particularly to motivate young people to become more involved in sports, physical fitness, and constructive community activities.
The organizers are also working to ensure that race entitlements are delivered on schedule. Durano said medals and singlets, produced by AndotSports, will be prepared for participants, while veteran race director Joel Juarez will provide technical support for the event.
Tabogon Race Route to Include Uphill Sections
Joel Juarez, who leads Coco Running, said the route will include uphill portions. These sections are expected to add a level of challenge to the race and give the Tabogon run a distinct character compared with flatter community running events.
Coco Running has partnered with the Tabogon local government to coordinate the route and other technical preparations. Juarez assured participants, particularly those traveling from other cities and locations, that the organizers intend to deliver a professionally managed and high-quality race experience.
“I will assure everyone who will join, especially those coming from different cities and places, I will make this event a high-end event.” — Joel Juarez
Runners considering the 5K category may wish to prepare for the uphill sections through regular endurance training, hill workouts, and gradual distance building. Participants in the 1K and 3K categories can also enjoy the event at a pace appropriate for their fitness level.
Mayor Francis Salimbangon Supports the Event

Municipal Information Officer John Hortelano said Mayor Francis Salimbangon has expressed support for the activity. The mayor is also helping explore partnerships with brands and neighboring municipalities, particularly those in northern Cebu.
The target of more than 2,500 runners is expected to be supported by the participation of Tabogon’s barangays, nearby communities, running clubs, partner municipalities, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
By bringing these groups together, the event aims to strengthen local cooperation while creating a shared platform for health, advocacy, and community development.
Run for a Cause Also Promotes Sports Tourism in Northern Cebu
Beyond its advocacy goals, the Keep Going Tabogon 2026 event is also part of the municipality’s broader effort to develop sports tourism and attract more visitors to northern Cebu.
Tabogon has previously hosted sporting activities such as the TWM 32.0 Tabogon Triathlon, rally racing, and endurocross. The new running event adds another opportunity for the municipality to welcome athletes, supporters, families, and visitors.
Municipal Tourism Officer Roel Rey Dichos said the tourism office is coordinating with accommodation providers and other local stakeholders in preparation for the expected influx of guests. Visitors may stay in homestays, glamping sites, and resorts, while food and refreshments will be available at establishments near Paseo Tabogon and the port.
The arrival of runners and guests could also benefit small businesses. Increased demand for rooms, meals, transportation, refreshments, and other services may provide additional income opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
“When we’re creating some event like this, we are not just helping the LGUs, the local government, but we’re helping our small entrepreneurs.” — Roel Rey Dichos
The municipality views sports events as one way to stimulate economic activity despite ongoing accessibility concerns. These include the damaged bridge connecting Tabogon and Borbon, which has required travelers heading toward the town center to take a longer route.
By attracting visitors through organized sporting events, Tabogon hopes to showcase its tourism potential while supporting local businesses and strengthening community participation.
Future Keep Going Run for a Cause Legs Planned in Cebu and Bohol
The Tabogon event is expected to be the first of several Keep Going Run for a Cause activities. Durano said the organizers plan to bring the advocacy to other locations after the October event.
The initiative will focus on connecting communities and giving back through runs that support a chosen barangay or charity in each location. This approach allows every leg to respond to the needs and priorities of its host community.
Additional legs are planned for Cebu City on November 15, 2026, and Maribojoc, Bohol, on November 22, 2026.
